Investigating Incidents
Energy related incidents occur daily
worldwide. These incidents may be caused by Mechanical Failures
(machines and metal), through Occurrences of Nature (erosion,
earthquakes, severe storms) and as a result of Human Factors
(operator error and sabotage).
A thorough investigation should be
conducted to determine cause, identify possible liability in civil
and criminal areas, and prevent similar incidents.
One of the investigator's basic roles
is the collection of evidence. Evidence "once lost, cannot be
recreated."
Professional investigators will
measure, sketch and photograph an incident scene; examine debris,
impact and projectile marking of the area to determine implosion or
explosion forces; look for soil contamination and heat effects,
odours, out of place items and determine the location of victims and
types of injuries.
Laptop Security
Laptop computers remain a favorite
item on the sneak thief's shopping list. Most thefts occur during
business hours from occupied office areas.
The replacement cost of a computer
may seem insignificant compared to the potential losses if the unit
contains proprietary information.
The best strategy to prevent this
type of loss is to keep unattended laptops locked in drawers or
secured in locking docking stations. Be aware of suspicious persons
on your premises. Do not assume that all visitors in suits or
courier uniforms are whom they seem. If in doubt, ask!
Security awareness presentations
presented in conjunction with safety or team meetings can remind
your employees of this potential problem.

What is a BIA?
A Business Impact Analysis is a
management level assessment of financial and operational impacts.
As senior management, you recognize
the need for development and provision of Business Continuity
Planning programs. The challenges of formulating a viable recovery
planning effort require comprehensive analysis and strategic
planning. These challenges include identification and definition of:
Financial
and operational impacts that may result from disruption of business
operations.
Business
units and operations deemed essential for sustaining business
continuity and maintaining financial and operational control.
Recovery
priorities and time frames.
Recovery
resource requirements for enterprise recovery.
Critical
technical equipment including computer processing.
A BIA conducted by a professional
Disaster Recovery Planner will assist you with these challenges.
Streetproofing for Adults
One of our favorite presentations is
called Streetproofing for Adults. We designed this program
to help employees feel more confident while away from their familiar
surroundings on business or pleasure.
Audience's Favorite Tips
Don't sit beside cash registers in
bars or restaurants.
Men should use stalls instead of
urinals in unfamiliar or crowded public facilities.
